Sorrow Beyond Syntax*…   Hussein Ali Hill-Johnson

In America things are now absurd

and “Alt-Truth” has become the key word

Innocence citizens were beaten and one murdered by terrorist

and our President took 3 days to denounce this

All I feel is pain

and lack the words to fully show my disdain

This morning’s sunlight exposed all of the above as sad facts

and all I am left with is a sorrow beyond syntax

*Inspired by the murder of Heather Heyer and brutal beating of Deandre Harris

Foot Soldier For Freedom* Poetry by Hussein Ali Johnson

Constantly tweeting to make people aware

of the devils of #Trumpcare

Calling my Senators weekly to let them know

I oppose stealing healthcare from the poor to improve the wealthy’s cash flow

I now write poetry as a member of the resistance

it validates my existence

I battle daily to get people to read um

because I am a foot soldier for freedom

Hussein Ali Hill-Johnson  7/20/17

*Inspired by Dr. King and his phrase, “I Am A Drum Major for Justice”

I Am the Existential Poet…Poetry By Hussein Ali Hill-Johnson

I am the existential poet

the lines on my palms show it

My coming was foretold

back before the days of old

I am a member of the 7th tribe

sent here to be their scribe

I am here to herald the awakening

which will begin with the quickening

When we the people with Melanin

break out of the mental hell we’re in

The battle of good vs evil rages on from here to beyond the sun

but, our side will be the victorious one

We will board the mother ship, we the Agents of light

and faster than a blink we will be out of sight

300 Years a Slave…Hussein Ali Hill-Johnson

Instead of hanging us from trees
they shoot us dead in the streets whenever they please

Or lock us up in cages
and take away our humanity  in stages

Their chains are no longer on our ankles above our feet
there in are our brains  buried deep into the grey meat

We finally get a Black President
and their disrespect for him and us is evident

Until  last year they were trying to give him the boot
4 days ago a White guy told me it was him he wished they would shoot

They work us hard on their high tech plantations everyday
but, will not give us equal pay

The road to our real freedom they refuse to pave
as we remain-300 years A Slave!!

Our Moral Decay…Hussein Ali-Hill Johnson

Change just for change sake
is a major mistake

If you follow leaders that are lost
guess who pays the cost

If you have a square and you cut off four corners you have a circle
that reminds me of the common sense wisdom of Studs Terkel

When it comes to self-respect and respecting others
we are going backwards my Sisters and Brothers

In a car reverse is the strongest gear
but, you can’t win Indy  guiding you car with it’s rear

The answer is not as simple is turning back the clock
in order to rebuild our society GOD must be our bedrock

Because  Devil is saying a big hooray
at the state of our moral decay

It’s Time: A Message To Some Of My Brothas…Hussein Ali Hill-Johnson

It’s time to holster that glock

and show respect for the block

It’s time to stop dealing those adult refreshments

and start selling derivative based investments

It’s time to apply to Harvard and Yale

instead of wasting your time going to jail

It’s time to quit dissing our Black Queen’s

and protect them by any necessary means

It’s time to put that Yak down

and put back on your crown

Real Talk… Poetry by Hussein Ali Hill-Johnson

Real Talk

My people perish for lack of knowledge of self and our true history is not on their library’s shelf

Our modern music misleads our youth with prevented versions of the truth

So they turn to booze, weed, coke and dope instead of finding betters ways to cope

Or they join gangs which are our resident evil and become pawns in our spiritual upheaval

Princes and Principalities are the real puppet masters and the architects of all man made disasters

I know how difficult it is to “walk the walk” and that all of the above is “real talk”

The Other America…Poetry by Hussein Ali Hill-Johnson

The Other America

Blacks here live in places like N’awlins, B-more and Chiraq
where hard working  people have to watch their back

Because from both the cops and criminals we are under attack
and the courts will not cut us any slack

Our country is divided by an ethic, religious or political wall
in order to survive my people climb mts. that are Everest  tall

We live on a social-ecomonic isthmus
Where crimes on us by both Whites and Blacks we witness

At best, for us the glass that hold life’s joy is only half full
but, least we are no longer slaves or any of that bull

Unfortunately, the “silent majority” here just can’t see
that we live in “the other America” – still yearning to be free

Free Speech…Poetry by Hussein Ali Hill-Johnson

Free Speech

Free speech is like using a double edge razor blade
my favorites are Wilkinson made

Being careful when you use it is the trick
because yourself you don’t want to nick

If you do, I hope its a minor cut
and doesn’t  require a stitches to shut

Remember there is a thin line between love and hate
or a self-aggrandizing monologue and a debate

Finally, it’s like playing basketball on a hard wood floor
the goal is to win, not to just run up the score
